 1. Register Now! EMC Forum 2008 –Toronto, October 23

 2. Article: Mike Sharun: Replicating Success

Network World Canada Editor Dave Webb recently interviewed EMC Canada´s Managing Director Michael Sharun about trends in the enterprise information infrastructure market. The two discussed EMC´s growing software business, the virtualization opportunities in Canada and how Canadian enterprises can cope with the explosion of digital data by relying on backup-to-disk technologies.

 3. EMC Boosts Partner Opportunities  

EMC recently unveiled enhancements to its EMC Velocity Partner Program that give EMC partners an opportunity to improve their profitability. A new Velocity Pre-sales Readiness Program helps partners better position themselves with their customers as a "trusted advisor" for EMC solutions, while the selection of a specialty designation within the EMC Velocity² Authorized Services Network (ASN) Specialty Program allows partners to develop deeper knowledge and expertise in a specific solution area.

 4. Iomega Packs Backup Services Into Drives 

Iomega Corporation, an EMC company, rolled out external hard drives that include EMC Retrospect Express Backup software for local backup and Mozy online service for remote backup, giving customers added assurance that their important information will be properly protected.

 5. EMC Accepting Nominations for 2009 Heritage Trust Grants  

EMC has launched the second edition of its EMC Heritage Trust Project, a program that recognizes and supports initiatives in local communities that are designed to protect invaluable information and improve access to that information. Last year, EMC awarded seven organizations a total of $100,000.

One of the winning organizations was the U'mista Cultural Society, an Alert Bay, B.C.-based organization which is digitizing, documenting and archiving the largest and oldest collection of Kwakwaka'wakw culture in Europe, held by the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. The Kwakwaka'wakw is an indigenous nation of 5,500 people living on Vancouver Island.

EMC is accepting nominations for 2009's EMC Heritage Trust Project until November 30, 2008. Award winners will be notified in May 2009. Any local Canadian organization or institution, or any individual engaged in the stewardship of information heritage can apply —-or be nominated —-for support from the EMC Heritage Trust Project.

Examples of projects that would qualify for support include:

  • Digitization of the collections of a local library, museum, or historical society
  • A significant private collection of music, letters, or art
  • Archives and records of a local business, cultural, or educational institution

The project awards consist of cash grants ranging from US$5,000 to US$15,000.

 7. Gartner Places RSA in Leaders Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention  

Gartner's 2008 Magic Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention placed RSA, The Security Division of EMC, in the Leaders quadrant.The designation was based on the RSA® Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Suite´s completeness of vision and ability to execute, and appears in the June 2008 report by Eric Ouellet and Paul Proctor entitled "Magic Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention."

  8. ON Magazine: With Virtualization, Expect the Unexpected  

The latest issue of EMC´s ON Magazine includes an article that examines virtualization and some of the unexpected, but pleasant, surprises a customer experienced after deploying virtualization technology. Larry Liss, chief technology officer of law firm Blank Rome LLP, virtualized his servers to save space and energy, but found the technology also led to higher availability and faster application deployment.
