EMC Press Release
Quebecor Media Chooses EMC’s Information Infrastructure Technology for QMI Agency
Montréal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario - October 19, 2009

Quebecor Media has announced its selection of EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, to equip the QMI Agency and Sun Media Corporation with a state-of-the-art integrated content management, search, sharing and archiving solution to be used by the Quebecor Media’s media properties. This system will link Quebecor Media’s numerous content-generating divisions to ensure optimal sharing, thus providing the QMI Agency with unparalleled content depth in both languages across Canada.

The move is consistent with Quebecor Media’s business model, which is based on providing multiplatform content by capturing synergies and pooling the expertise of its personnel across the country.

“Adding this single content management platform to the expertise and talent of the people at our various media properties positions the QMI Agency even more strongly as a leader in content development and sharing,” said Hugues Simard, head of QMI Agency. “It will yield significant improvements in the sharing of audio and video files and the storage of text, photos and other documents, supporting continuation of the steady growth the QMI Agency has experienced since its creation.”

The solution, based on the EMC Documentum enterprise content management platform, will enable Quebecor Media to optimize and integrate business processes. The company’s media properties will no longer operate in isolation with different content management tools at a time when major media organizations around the world are striving to enhance operational efficiencies in view of the dramatic changes underway in media industries.

Quebecor subsidiary Sun Media will begin pilot project of new solution in fall

Sun Media Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media, will be carrying out a pilot project of the new content sharing solution at some of its properties beginning this fall.

The content sharing solution will be supported by EMC Centera® content addressed storage systems and EMC Celerra® unified storage systems located at various Sun Media locations. Additionally, EMC Symmetrix® V-Max storage systems, which can scale to petabytes of information, will allow Sun Media to create a central repository of content, accessible by all of Sun Media’s properties.

The combination of Documentum and its highly-scalable EMC information infrastructure will allow Sun Media to streamline its internal workflows, reduce duplication of effort and improve the publisher’s business recovery capabilities.

“We needed to consolidate a lot of information at our central data centres to ensure accessibility to all our properties. When we looked at the platforms that were available, EMC V-Max offered the scalability, availability and flexibility we required,” said Richard Roy, Vice President IS/IT of Sun Media. “With EMC’s information infrastructure technology, we’re able to build a platform that links all our properties together, improving the access to shared content, creating new opportunities to leverage our existing content investments and driving efficiencies.”
